HOW TO WORK THE ROUTE
THE WEEK
SEVEN SHIFTS · THEN THE NIGHTMonday to Sunday — one street a day, a different borough each time — then the MIDNIGHT shift after Sunday. Clear every route to finish the week.
THE RIG RIDES WITH YOUThe DSNY truck crawls the block alongside the worker. Its open rear hopper is where every bag, can and basket has to land.
READ THE DAY CARDEvery shift opens with the day, the street and that day's own WATCH OUT FOR line. That line is today's trouble.
LANDSCAPE · FULLSCREENThis is a landscape game. On a phone in portrait you get ROTATE YOUR DEVICE · turn the phone and go full screen.
CONTROLS · KEYBOARD
WALK THE ROUTEW A S D or the ARROW KEYS · up the route, back down the route, and strafing across the street.
ACT · EVERYTHING ELSESPACE or E · pick up, dump, counter-punch, shoo a rat, kick a ball, swing the shovel. It is also the “go” key on every card.
PAUSE · RESUMEESC or P holds a live shift · ENTER / START on any card.
QUIT TO MENUPause first, then START + SELECT on the controller · the PAUSE / QUIT pill on touch.
CONTROLS · GAMEPAD (USB / BLUETOOTH)
ANY STANDARD PADPlug a USB pad in or pair a Bluetooth one · Xbox, PlayStation, Switch Pro and generic pads all work. The pads are polled every frame, the first pad found drives the worker, and the keyboard keeps working right next to it. Plug one in mid-shift and press a button · the game picks it up on its own.
LEFT STICK · D-PADThe left stick is a true analog stick · 360 degrees, speed proportional to how far you push, with a small dead zone in the middle. The D-pad works as a fallback: stick, d-pad and keyboard all walk the same street.
A · B · X · Y = ACTAll four face buttons do what SPACE does. The START button begins a shift and pauses a live one; START + SELECT quits to the menu.
THE TRAINER TOOThe pad drives the hidden trainer menu as well · stick or d-pad to move the row, a face button to set it, START / SELECT to get out.
CONTROLS · VIRTUAL GAMEPAD (TOUCH)
THUMB-STICK (BOTTOM-LEFT)Analog, 360 degrees. Push UP = walk up the route, DOWN = back, LEFT / RIGHT = strafe, and every angle in between · push harder to walk faster, centre to stand still. The stick also mirrors the keyboard and the gamepad, so you always see what is moving the worker.
ACT (BOTTOM-RIGHT)Exactly the same as SPACE: pick up, dump, punch back, shovel.
PAUSE / QUIT PILLThe small pill above the stick holds the shift · START + SELECT quits to the menu. It doubles as the readout that flashes what you just picked up and what it paid.
SMART LAYOUTOn a computer the stick and ACT are hidden · the keyboard drives everything. Attach a keyboard to a phone or tablet and the ACT button drops away by itself · the thumb-stick stays under your fingers. Attach a gamepad (USB or Bluetooth) and the whole on-screen pad · stick and ACT · drops away, and it comes right back the moment you unplug the gamepad.
WORKING THE CURB
ACT PICKS UPStand beside a curb bag, a garbage can, an empty can to stand back up, or a corner litter basket · press ACT. The finds (mongo, cash, treasure) need no button at all · walk onto them.
ACT DUMPSCarry it to the rig's open rear hopper and press ACT again. Heavy bags, full cans and litter baskets must be hauled right up to the hopper; light bags go in from a short step back. Stand too far out and the worker tells you so.
STACK THE LOADWith a light bag in hand, ACT grabs the next small bag you walk past, so one trip to the truck can clear a row of houses. Take a hit with your hands full and the whole load lands on the sidewalk · pick it back up.
THE ROUTE IS FINITEYou cannot walk back behind the start barrier, and the last intersection ends the shift. The street is laid out once at the start of the day · loot you leave behind stays exactly where you left it, and nothing new appears.
AT THE END OF THE BLOCKReach the finish and the worker pumps his fist, climbs into the cab and the rig drives off · then the SHIFT REPORT prints today's tally and the day's clean percentage.
THE 95% CLEAN LAW
SERVICE 95% OF THE ROUTEA route only counts as serviced if the worker took in at least 95% of everything on it · litter baskets + garbage bags + garbage cans + storm debris, counted together.
THE END-OF-ROUTE INSPECTIONFinish under 95% and the supervisor writes him up: “Failed to clean route. Work left out.” The stamp slams over the day-end report and the red seal cites the offense.
THREE WRITE-UPS = SUSPENDEDA worker DOWN in the street is a write-up. A route left dirty is a write-up. They share the same COMPLAINTS ISSUED meter · the 3rd one ends the run · GAME OVER. The meter travels with the man across the weekday boundaries · the MIDNIGHT shift is the exception: the week's complaints are squashed by your hook the moment the night's card opens, the pips reset to 0/3, and the haunted shift starts on a clean sheet.
OVERTIME WANTS IT ALLThe OVERTIME basket shift wants every last basket · 100%, inside the 30-second clock · plus $3,000 of street cash.
STREET LOOT = POWER-UPS
MONGOScrap metal left on the curb · brass pipes, a kitchen sink, a copper wire spool, an electric motor, an air conditioner. $10–$100 a piece.
STREET CASHBills from under a storm-debris box, a busted hydrant, a knocked-over cone. $100. On the MIDNIGHT street the money is Chinese HELL NOTES · same cash, different paper, and it banks at face value.
TREASURE63 street finds · a masterpiece on an easel, a Zelda cartridge, a sealed Hot Wheels, a Rolex, rare vinyl, a vintage cash register. $50–$250. The ghostly gold floating behind the Maspeth cemetery fence is worth $300–$600 · you can reach it from the sidewalk without ever getting past the iron.
HAVING FUN PAYSKicking a piss bottle, teasing a bodega cat, knocking down a roadwork cone, booting a soccer ball · 10 street cash each, and prank money counts toward the healers too.
DOUBLE TIMESunday in Bed-Stuy pays every point double · bags, cans, baskets, mongo, treasure, cash, all of it. The storm-debris day is the week's payday.
WHY YOU WANT THE LOOTEvery find banks into the STREET CASH counter · and STREET CASH is what buys your healers.
THE POWER-UPS
COFFEE · BEC SANDWICHThe healers. A coffee restores 25 health, a full bacon-egg-cheese sandwich restores 40. One of the two drops on the street near the worker every $5,000 of STREET CASH you bank · on MIDNIGHT the money is HELL NOTES and a healer costs the same 5,000 in notes (50 of the $100 bills).
RED BULL · “RUN IT UP!”A Red Bull can pops up beside the worker every $30,000 of SCORE (MIDNIGHT: every $120,000). Drink it and the worker runs it up: 12 seconds of total immunity · nothing hurts him, nothing stuns him, no hit can write him up, and he walks straight through traffic, crowds, dogs and hazards. He also walks 30% faster for the whole rush, with a burst of stars off him. When the bar empties, his normal pace comes right back.
THE EARN BARS · THE POINTER ARROWThe two thin bars under STREET CASH (burger icon) and the RED BULL bar (wing icon) fill toward the next heal and the next Bull · they measure the level you are on: the heal bar is 5,000 of STREET CASH on the seven weekdays and OVERTIME and 5,000 HELL NOTES on MIDNIGHT, the Bull bar is 30,000 SCORE by day and 120,000 SCORE on MIDNIGHT. The instant a power-up lands on the street, the arrow beside the worker lights up and points straight at it for as long as it lies there.
SAVE THEM FOR THE HARD PARTA healer and a Bull stay lying on your stretch of the street for the whole shift · off-screen when you walk away, back on-screen when you walk back. Nothing expires · time them yourself.
THINGS TO AVOID
DOG SHITStep in a pile and your boots keep the brown shoe-print trail going · the worker walks about a quarter slower for as long as he is leaving the prints behind, then full speed comes back. No damage · a squelch, a tiny stagger, and time off your shift.
TRAFFICCars, motorcycles, e-scooters, e-bikes, bicycles, kid tricycles and the little RC cars. A run-over is the hardest hit in the street (8 health) and empties your hands. Vehicles have right of way · the supervisor always says so.
STREET FURNITUREFire hydrants, storm-debris boxes, mailboxes, sidewalk trees, curbs, parked driveway cars, the chalk outline. Solid, and they nick you (5 health). In a rainy shift the hopper itself squirts a gush that takes a worker down · HR files it as “Bathing in public without permission”.
THE ANIMALSLeashed dogs lunge on their chain · the Bronx, Queens and Bed-Stuy run the big mean pit bull variety today (8 health a bite), and raccoons, rats, squirrels and street cats swarm your legs. Shoo them with ACT · a kicked rat is free entertainment, and the squirrels are protected.
THE CROWDTouching anyone is a bump, and every bump in this era is the worker's fault. Pedestrians, hookers, skaters, breakers, dogwalkers and loud addicts · the write-up always names the worker, never the party at fault.
YOUR HEALTH BARWORKER HEALTH runs 0–100. At zero the worker goes DOWN · the sad trombone, the dizzy spin, the fall onto the sidewalk · and a write-up. Hits grant a short set of i-frames, so a second swat in the same instant does nothing.
“SAN MAN NEEDS FOOD BADLY!”The street alarm. Take a hit while you are standing low on health and the screen flashes red, the fire alarm runs and the banner burns in the middle of the screen. That is the cue to go find a coffee, not to find a fight.
DON'T LOSE THE TRUCKYour hands full and no hopper in reach is a long walk with a shrinking clock. Drop small bags as you go and keep the rig between you and the load.
THE 13 GUYS YOU CAN PUNCHGet hit by one of the street's 13 attackers · a dealer, the mack daddy, the knife maniac, a panhandler, the little Polish brother, the mafia guy, a stick-up kid, the football player, the street baller, the rapper, the cop, the robber, the alien guy · and your hands drop the trash and you snap into BEAST MODE: red face, a rage halo at your feet, a clenched fist over your cap. For 10 seconds the ACT key throws a jab · get within arm's reach and press it: the attacker squeals, runs off, and drops a mark on the ground at his feet for you to bank. Miss the window and his punch stands.
THE STREET FOLKS · THE WEEK · MONDAY TO SUNDAY
MONDAY · MANHATTAN, GRAMERCY PARKWATCH OUT FOR THE EDP! · the naked knife maniac is the day's head case: he stalks the middle of the route, shouts “I need money!” and stabs on contact, then backs off for a beat · go around him. The pizza-delivery courier is the day's mascot · get within reach and he bells “Order up!”, drops the gear and rides AT you; bumping him is a write-up. Gramercy is the one day with three real cyclists in the road, and the street runs a hooker, a yelling addict, the bodega cats at the corner stores and the dog tied to a sidewalk fence post · Manhattan has no front lawns, so no doghouse today.
TUESDAY · THE BRONX, MOTT HAVENDON'T PESTER THE DRUG PUSHERS! · one burly stoop dealer per block, each guarding a weed / fentanyl stash table on his own stoop. Step into his corner and he punches. Every dealer has a lure lying on the sidewalk right at his feet · a curb bag, a can, or a mongo / cash / treasure find. The loot is real. The punching range is that close. Take the bag and take the punch, or go around the block.
THE BRONX REST OF ITTwo panhandlers shuffle in front of the corner stores begging for money, a drink, or drugs · a shove and a cloud of stink, light damage but it adds up. The two-wheeler traffic is swapped for a motorcycle and an e-bike. The Bronx cats sit on the store door mats, and the cats here are the white-and-grey “mott” mousers.
WEDNESDAY · BROOKLYN, FLATBUSHWATCH FOR CHILDREN! · three driveway tricycle kids, parked one in the early, one in the middle and one in the late third of the route so you always pass them. Each one lunges off his driveway at you (4 health · a light bump), and none of them ever cross into the street. A soccer kid plays in a lane · run into the kid himself and he stuns you and opens your hands: the bags and the can you were carrying hit the walk at your feet. Boot his ball instead · that one pays.
FLATBUSH REST OF ITTwo observant scholars stroll the sidewalk with a Talmud under the arm · bumping one offends him: “Failure to respect observant citizen”. THREE doghouses sit on the front lawns today (one on every other level), so the lunging dogs have a longer chain. No hookers, no yelling addicts, no street tricycles on the sidewalk · the only tricycles in this game are Flatbush's driveway kids. OVERTIME fires the moment Wednesday ends.
THURSDAY · QUEENS, MASPETHRUN THE GAUNTLET · the nosy homeowner shadows you down his block with a running list of stupid questions about the trash schedule, and bumps you like any civilian · the seal cites her. One Polish lady per block, on her own frontage, with her bag anchored right at her feet · so the pickup is what puts you in bumping range, and bumping her sends her little brother storming over to throw at most 2 whacks (3 health each · a scared kid, not a street pro). The skunk and her baby trot the street · get close and she sprays (4 health, and the stun); bump one and it huffs and bolts.
MASPETH REST OF ITThe only bike riders today are two pizza-delivery couriers in hi-vis vests · bump one and a pizza or a tacos falls out of the bag. Mount Mongo Cemetery stands on its own block: no house, no curb garbage, iron fence, ghosts and the floating ghostly gold. A healer and a Red Bull never spawn behind the fence, and neither does the cemetery treasure · it all lies in the band you can walk.
FRIDAY · STATEN ISLAND, NEW DORPSNITCHES GET STITCHES! · a Karen on every odd block, each in her own dress, shadowing you down 3-4 houses with “I know ALL about garbage” questions and loud complaints about your job, your schedule, and the boss. A housewife on every even block · overly friendly, slightly too forward, and a bump is a bump. On Block 2 a man is washing his sedan on the driveway with the house spigot: get too close to the nozzle and you get the hose. On Block 3 a mafia enforcer in a tracksuit stands over his own chalk crime-scene outline · come near him or the outline and he stalks you down HIS block and the NEXT ONE UP, and his bump hits heavy. He is not walking the whole street · the Feds are watching, so he stops dead at the far corner of the block above his own and he will not cross it.
NEW DORP REST OF ITA blue jay with a nest of babies in a sidewalk tree owns her block · the nest is sacred. She marks a warning circle on the pavement around you before she swoops · step out of the ring and you dodge the hit. One good blow per shift: the moment her dive LANDS on the sanitation worker, she is done · she flies home to the babies and squawks at you from the nest for the rest of Friday, no new circle, no new dive. A swoop she misses does not count · she breathes and comes at you again. Three tee-ball kids play catch on one block and hurl the ball straight at you when you get in the way. An RC kid runs a mini monster truck across the lawns and the street · it darts past and trips you. The parked car on the driveway is solid. Staten is a sidewalk-only day: the porch lines keep you off the lawns.
SATURDAY · MANHATTAN, HARLEMCLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE HOMELESS KIND · the mack daddy runs Block 3 in the purple suit and feather, with the day's whole crew standing the corner beside him · get close and he goes hostile, stalks you down his block and punches. Out of a lidless manhole comes the alligator, rearing up to chomp whoever stands on the spot · a protected species. The alien-conspiracy guy holds one random block and hurls debris at you while he saves Harlem. The street baller drills on his own hoop · crowd his court and the ball comes at you. The bird-seed homeless man shadows his block flinging seed, and the flock that comes to eat it fouls your uniform.
SUNDAY · BROOKLYN, BED-STUY · DOUBLE TIMESACKS AND CRIME · every point on this day pays DOUBLE, and it is the busiest street of the week. One high-school football player works his line of scrimmage and tackles the worker flat (“Hut… hut… HIKE!”). One aspiring rapper paces his block freestyling and gets pushy · “Failed to avoid an American Idol”. On one block an NYPD officer and a masked robber shoot it out behind the trees, mailboxes and hydrants · they always miss each other, and only you can get grazed: stand in the line, take the crossfire. Out of a lidless manhole rises a giant purple octopus tentacle that grabs you off the street · a biohazard. Storm debris boxes pile the curb, and the rain is guaranteed.
THE FOLKS GET BUSIER EVERY DAYThe crowd is deliberately sparse on Monday. Every day of the week adds one more motorcycle, one more e-bike and one more RC car, so Sunday is the busiest, most dangerous shift of the week · and the night shift that follows is on its own.
AND THEN · MIDNIGHTThe shift after Sunday is the same brownstone row at their unholy hour, emptied of everything mortal. There is no list for it · too many. You get a shovel, a block-by-block wall of fog you have to shovel empty to open the street, and a boss in the cemetery at the end of a dead-end street. The night shift is won with the shovel, not with your hands. Everything on this page that has an ACT button applies · out here, the ACT key swings the shovel. THE CLOCK-IN GIFT: as the MIDNIGHT card opens, your hook squashes every complaint carried from the week · the COMPLAINTS ISSUED meter is wiped to 0/3before you take the first step, so no Monday write-up can suspend you in the haunt. Strikes earned on the night shift itself (a worker DOWN in the dead end) stack normally on top of the clean sheet.
OVERTIME · THE BASKET SHIFT
WHEN IT FIRESThe second Wednesday is serviced, the route ends, and the card offers OVERTIME BASKETS · a 4-block all-store street with no curb garbage at all. The only job is the corner litter baskets.
THE 30-SECOND CLOCKThe clock starts the instant the worker moves. Two win conditions: service every basket and bank $3,000 of street cash · all the mongo, treasure and cash lying on that store street is worth double to get you there. Shove the baskets at the hopper · they only count once they land in the truck.
THE PAYDAYMake the clock with both conditions and the overtime money is yours to keep · and a Red Bull is laid on the curb on Thursday by the cemetery, marked. Miss the clock and the report tells you exactly what didn't land: the baskets left out first, then the money. The entire overtime payout is rolled back to zero.
HI-SCORE · NO CHEATING
THE WEEK'S SCOREEvery shift adds to the WEEK TOTAL. Finish the week and the score is banked on this device as the HI-SCORE · the number the main menu and the game-over cards print.
CHEATS VOID THE RECORDThe build number in the top-left corner of the logo opens the hidden TRAINER. Touching any trainer option · Infinite Health, Always Run It Up!, Infinite Complaints, or a Starting Level that is not the week's real start · flags the game you are playing. A flagged game is a game with no record: the HI-SCORE IS NEVER SAVED. Flipping the same option back off is too late · the flag stands for that whole game.
A REFRESH CLEANS THE SHEETReload the game — refresh the page in the browser — and the trainer comes back with every row at its default: no cheat in use, no flag, and the HI-SCORE is saveable again from that refresh on. A cheat only owns the game you switched it on in; open the trainer and use one again and that game is flagged. (Quitting to the main menu is not a refresh — the panel keeps your rows where you left them, and a brand-new week starts clean.)
NO CHEATING!On every card that prints a HI-SCORE · SUSPENDED BY DSNY, the route report, YOU WIN · the number is crossed out under the NO CHEATING! · CHEATS IN USE · HI-SCORE NOT SAVED stamp, the ribbon stays dark, and the BEST SHIFT line shows the last honest record. The trainer is a toy for walking the night shift. Play a week clean and the record is yours.
INFINITE COMPLAINTS MEANS WHAT IT SAYSWith Infinite Complaints ON, the complaints genuinely stop stacking: a worker DOWN and a dirty route are still written up — the seal slams, the sound fires, the offense is read out — and the stamp adds “NO STRIKE RECORDED”, because the COMPLAINTS ISSUED meter does not climb. No 3rd strike, no suspension: the shift runs on. The row clears nothing that is already on the record (flip it on with two write-ups and you still have two), and with the row OFF the three-strike law is plain: 3 write-ups = SUSPENDED. It is a cheat, so the week's HI-SCORE goes with it.
THE HUD · THE BUTTONS
TOP-LEFT READOUTWORKER HEALTH · DISTANCE (how far along the route you are) · SCORE · STREET CASH with the two earn bars under it.
COMPLAINTS ISSUEDThe three pips. Each write-up lights one. The third one ends the week.
THE GEARS CARDThe gear next to START SHIFT holds RENDER (540P default · a smaller picture is a faster game), FPS, SHADOW, CRT (the scanline / vignette look) and RADIO (HI-FI / LO). Every choice saves on this device. If a phone is struggling, the game quietly lends itself a lower picture and climbs back to your settings when the street calms down.
THE RADIOThe NOW PLAYING widget docked under START SHIFT is the same station you hear in the truck · MUTE and SKIP work before the shift starts and keep playing straight through it.
OFFLINE PLAY · THE ASSET CACHE
IT DOWNLOADS ONCEThe first launch runs the GETTING ASSETS gate and stores the whole game on your device · the page shell, the truck, the worker, every prop and model, and every song on the radio. After that the game and the station play with no network at all.
THE CACHE BADGEThe small badge in the top-right tells you where you stand: CACHING n/N (assets are still downloading) · OFFLINE READY (every model and every track is stored · it all works off the cable) · OFFLINE (the connection dropped and the cached copy is running) · ONLINE ONLY (this browser has no cache to write to, so it runs from the network).
INSTALL THE GAMEINSTALL GAME under START SHIFT adds the game to the device as an app · a real fullscreen, a home-screen icon, and storage the browser is asked to keep permanently so a low-phone can't evict the street. On iPhone / iPad, use Share → “Add to Home Screen” · the browser keeps its address bar, only the installed app runs edge-to-edge.
WHAT SAVES ON THIS DEVICEYour HI-SCORE, your SETTINGS, and the cheat flag · all local, all keyed to this browser. Nothing plays off a server: the week, the street and the loot seed are all generated on your machine.
